Cruise in, race on...

When The Weather Channel tells me the forecast for Sparta, Ky., is not looking too kind for NASCAR this weekend, I look to closer motorsports activities.

TWC says this: "Showers early then scattered thunderstorms developing later in the day. High around 75F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%."

What that tells me is as the day goes along toward that nightime Quaker State 400, rain is likely. Let's not forget, when I went to the Daytona 500, it rained out for the first time ever. In Charlotte earlier this year, there were afternoon showers before the All Star Challenge. A few years ago at the spring Bristol race, we endured a snow delay.

My belief is, if I don't go, there is a better chance of getting the race in.

So, I'll hang close to home. Here are the weekend activities, and another looking toward the July 4th holiday.

That July 4th race in Portsmouth, Ohio, will be of special interest to racefans in the Tri-State. Local favorite, Ashland resident, Steve Francis, is schneduled for the Lucas Oil dirt series that night.

Let's all get out and show him our support!
