No Late Models next year

Well, Kenny G., there will be on-track changes at Ona Speedway, and as I see it, there's a matter of economics for the drivers and teams.

The track spokesman, Susan Sparks, told me the Late Models are "economically unfriendly," and the Modifieds are expensive to race, too.

However, there will be a driver/director meeting in the near future to discuss how to make them more fiscally friendly.

Like you, I'll miss Late Models and the Modifieds, I have friends in both divisions and it's always special when you have a personal stake in a race. The other classes aren't so exciting (sorry, they really aren't usually).

At the end of the season a few weeks ago, many of the Late Models and Modified cars were up for sale. I don't know if that's normal at the end of the year, but drivers and teams were looking to sell off the goods.

Do you have any ideas on how to make both classes more affordable for the working men and women who own and drive these machines? I'm sure the drivers, owners and race director would be interested to have the input.

So all you gearheads, don't whine. Put those noggins together and be part of the solution. I'm an idea person, but not in that department. I can tell you how to appeal to people, make the place attractive and have fun around the track. But you serious car folks can help in the garage ideas. If you seriously want to keep the Late Models and Modifieds, make financial suggestions.

WEll it's a financial deal for the Late Models, BUT The track has to provide a purse that is a hell of a lot better than the last offer of $ 50.00 to race.
Face it The late Models and Modifieds bring the crowd, the track has a inexpensive class in the Classics I sold many of these cars in the Mid 90's.
I own two Late Models and one Modified and WILL race them next year , probably not at ONA But at another track that has the foresight to get the sponsorship for the Classes.
The late Models are paid $925.00 to win with a starting payout per car of $125.00 This trtack is NASCAR Sanctioned with the required liciences etc. BUT the rule book is written in STONE, no weekly changes, no rules suggested by idiots that don't even race there etc.
I ran only three times last year won two and finished 2nd in the other race.
My total Income for the season was $825.00.
I expended about the same , but am looking at a $2500.00 expence to freshen my engine.
We have economy tires, run gas, a two barrel , not much else we can do.
The driving habits of a couple of guys need to be straightened out , they think they are a NASCAR outfit and that Racing is Rubbing.
They forget that these cars are Fiberglass and that doesn't go here.
Hate to say it but Susan Sparks knows nothing about the mechanics of a car nor the cost of getting them built, maintained etc.
She should stick to selling sponsorships, not trying to make track policy.
